Intuitive Design of Experiments (DoE)

DoE as an investigational strategy that aims to design the most economical experiments for the purpose of obtaining empirical knowledge, i.e. knowledge gained from the system under investigation and not on theoretical models. It is most usefully applied in the first steps of large problem solving projects or for improving existing process or product performance. Recognised as one of the most effective strategies for investigating complex problems, DoE has experienced higher acceptance recently from initiatives such as Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Quality by Design (QbD). When used in conjunction with The Unscrambler®’s multivariate data analysis routines, this improves the power and value of DoE.

Your objective sets your goal ! Your objective sets your goal

- Screening of many factors
- Understanding important interactions
- Optimization

Defining the objective is the most important aspect of good experimental design

Design meaningful experiments

Design meaningful experiments - Enter the variables into the Xperiment design wizard
- Match the design to the objective using the available pre-defined designs, including

Full & Fractional Factorial   Optimization
Mixture   D-Optimal

Knowledge = Understanding

Knowledge = Understanding Use the various Unscrambler Analysis tools to
- Find the most influential factors
- Discover important interactions
- Develop new formulations
- Optimise a product or process

The information gained at this stage is maximized, from the minimum of experimental and resource input.

Apply the knowledge gained

Design Space

- Improve the efficiency of your processes
- Implement control strategies for critical steps
- Improve sensory and quality aspects of your products
- Define the “Design Space” in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical applications
